Another hangi

Now that I feel bad about bagging out Rotorua so much, I might write about one of things I really enjoy about living here. Just before Christmas, I was able to go to another Maori village for a concert and hangi. This one was at Mitai Village - an entirely family owned and run business so it was a bit more personal than the last one I went to. We had a traditional concert, a hangi dinner, and then were taken for a walk through the native forest to learn how it was used traditionally. The evening culminated in a visit to a nearby hot spring (well warm spring) filled with trout and surrounded by hunudreds of glow worms. It was a pretty dark, rainy night, so didn't get heaps of pics but here are a few.
The chief welcomes us to his village Some of the warriors trying to scare us (no, that guy's pants aren't on fire...)
Our hangi is ready to eat
It was a great night and demonstrated to me, once again, how much I'd like to learn about Maori culture.
