Denmark and some sensible food

So, now I'm in Denmark, working again. Matt has dashed off to do fun stuff in the Netherlands with his friend Yorden.

So far things are going well. The research centre I'm at is in the greater Copenhagen area. It doesn't seem to be quite as pretty a Uppsala was - there is not the same kind of historic centre - but I've seen some lovely forests and lakes. The person I'm working with has been fabulous - she's already taken me to some forests to look for my fungus, and today we spent a very interesting day in central Copenhagen measuring urban trees for decay using a sonic device which I'd only read about before.

And on the food front I've already had the chance to try some Danish classics - salty Danish liquorice, Smørrebrød (open sandwiches), dark rye bread, horseraddish sauce, boiled new potatoes, and my favourite so far...........chocolate sandwiches!

It's called:

pålægschokolade

Yep, that's right, the Danes are so sensible that they sell slices of chocolate in the supermarket specifically for making an open chocolate sandwich! Oh yeah!
