Always book on an overnight train!
On Friday, we caught the train from Copenhagen up to Oslo. After a short wander through the evening streets of Oslo, we jumped on an overnight train to Trondheim to visit Matt's friend Henrik.
Now, we'd received some advice from a travel agent in Helsingor who suggested that, as we had Eurail passes, we didn't need to book places on any of our train travels. Turns out, despite the travel agent sounding so convincing, she was somewhat mistaken! The night train was fully booked so for a while, we appeared to be facing the prospect of spending the night standing in the train corridor! Luckily, a few seats appeared later in the evening and we were able to get some sleep! But we're certainly booking seats on all trains from now on.....
Trondheim turned out to be a lovely university town, complete with crazy uni antics and a fabulous cathedral. It was really nice to meet Matt's friend Henrik, his wife Henriette and their new little daughter Iris. And it was the furtherest north I'd ever been (63 degrees apparently!)
